The Lancs & Cheshire Cricket Society enjoyed a double-header with two speakers for the first meeting of the new season in October.
Former Lancashire players, and now first-class umpires, Graham Lloyd and Steve O’Shaughnessy answered questions on umpiring.
Malcolm Lorimer started by asking some questions from the splendid little book by Umpire John Holder with cartoons and questions.
They were asked some very odd questions like what happens when a batsman’s asks to change his shirt? What happens in a village match when the dog catches the ball in it’s mouth, writing on the ball and all kind of difficult problems you have never even thought of! (The book is worth getting by the way).
Graham and Steve answered the questions very well and it was very difficult to catch them out. They also answered questions on TV referrals.
Malcolm made the comment that watching Lancashire in the 1990’s you would never have expected these two characters to be umpires! But listening to them you get the feeling that umpiring is in safe hands with these two in charge.
Malcolm Lorimer.
